Bus workers and owners groups have called an indefinite period of bus strike on three routes from Kushtia to Faridpur and Khulna and stopped direct bus services.
The strike started on Friday morning.
This strike called after beating of Kushtia bus workers on Wednesday.
President of Kushtia District Bus Minibus Owners Group Akhtaruzzaman said the incident started in Jhenaidah.
According to him, Jhenaidah motor workers leaders have been asking for new bus trips for several days. This created chaos among the motor workers of Kushtia. Kushtia workers demand that if trips to Jinaida are increased, trips to Kushtia will also increase.
The bus owners held a meeting at Kaliganj in Jhenaidah on Wednesday afternoon.
There were allegations that some staff of the Kushtia bus were beaten up in the meeting.
Over the issue, the top leaders of the five organizations concerned with transport in Kushtia met on Thursday evening and decided to stop the bus service.
Akhtaruzzaman, President of the District Bus Minibus Owners Group, said that traffic on all routes will be stopped if the incident is not duly resolved by next Sunday
He said that if police do not arrest the people involved in the beating of the bus staff by next Sunday, a stricter agitation programme will be announced.
He said that the bus service from Khulna to Kushtia is stopped. At the same time, bus service on Faridpur route is also stopped.
Sources said, the bus, however, from Khulna is coming to Jhenaid.
Meanwhile, the passengers have suffered greatly due to the strike. Due to the sudden stoppage of bus services, many are forced to come back to the bus counter.
