Several hundreds of vehicles including passenger buses have been stranded along a 2 km highway of Kushtia-Rajbari since early Wednesday after ferry service between Daulatdia-Paturia suspended.
Authorities of Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Corporation (BIWTC) said it has stopped moving ferries due heavy fog on the route.
Mohammad Salahuddin, Assistant General Manager (AGM) of the BIWTC Daulotdia Ghat office confirmed the suspension today morning.
The official explained that the fog's increased density at 12:40:am rendered the ferry channel's beacon lights and marking points invisible.
“We had placed our order of halting all types of ferry operations from 1.00: am to prevent accidents,” the official said.
Around 300 hundred passenger buses and trucks have been stranded along a 2-kilometer stretch from Daulotdia Zero Point to the Bangladesh Hatcheries area.
Now, 12 ferries are in operation on the route three ferry ghats remain open.
