Govt to distribute bicycles to 16 thousands school girls in 8 districts

The government has taken project to distribute bicycles among 16 thousand girls in 8 districts of the country. Initially, the sixth grade girls will get these bicycles. The total cost of the project is Tk. 25 crores. The project will be implemented by the June 2025.
Directorate of Women Affairs will implement the project. The eight districts are Rajbari, Jamalpur, Khagrachari, Sunamganj, Chapainawabganj, Kurigram, Jhenaidah and Barguna.
The main objectives of the project are prevention of child marriage, implementation of uninterrupted education programme for school going girls, their empowerment, easy and fearless walking on their way. This project will facilitate the entry of women into the future workplace through continuous education programmes, and help teenagers to emerge as female entrepreneurs.
The Directorate of Women’s Affairs said that if the pilot project of bicycle distribution is successful, it will be spread across the country in stages.
Ayesha Siddiqui, Deputy Director (Planning and Evaluation) of the Directorate of Women Affairs said that several initiatives are being taken for the development of adolescent girls and neglected women. Meanwhile, the project proposal has been sent to the Planning Commission.
