Government to buy more fertilizer against the growing demand

The government has decided to buy 90 thousand tons of TSP and urea fertilizers this year over the growing demand
The fertilizers will be bought from Morocco and Qatar.
This approval was given in the meeting of the Cabinet Committee on Public Procurement held on Wednesday (September 21) under the chairmanship of Finance Minister AHM Mustafa Kamal. The meeting was held virtually. After the meeting, Additional Secretary of the Cabinet Division Abdul Barik announced the decision of the meeting.
Out of this, 30 thousand tons of TSP and 60 thousand tons of urea will be purchased. The cost of buying these two fertilizers is 637 crore 23 lakh 52 thousand 502 taka.
Abdul Barik said, through the Bangladesh Agriculture Development Corporation (BADC) under the Ministry of Agriculture, approval has been given to import 30,000 tons of TSP fertilizer from Morocco’s OCP, SA for 221 crore 53 lakh 50 thousand 357 taka. In addition, through the Bangladesh Chemical Industries Corporation (BCIC) under the Ministry of Industry, approval has been given to purchase 30 thousand metric tons of bagged prilled urea fertilizer in four lots from Muntajat in Qatar for Tk 206 crore 59 lakh 11 thousand 750.
Besides, in another proposal, approval has been given to import 30 thousand metric tons of bulk granular urea fertilizer from Qatar’s Muntajat in five lots at 209 crore 10 lakh 90 thousand 495 taka.
