All kinds of goods will be imported from India to Rail Cargo through Benapole. This will reduce the cost and time of importing goods.
The National Board of Revenue (NBR) has already given permission for handling rail cargo at Benapole. However, subject to certain conditions, all kinds of goods have to be brought from India through side door (with side door) rail cargo. Earlier only bulk cargo such as stone, stone chips, paddy, rice, wheat was imported by rail. From now on all kinds of products can be brought by train.
According to the relevant sources, the import and export of goods through Benapole-Petrapole port was stopped from March 22 at the beginning of Corona. Later, in several meetings of the high ups and port user organizations of the two countries, it was not possible to start import-export with instructions. Truck extortion in Bangaon and Petrapole is blamed for this.
The latest Benapole Custom Rail cargo recorded a shipment of rice seeds in 10 minutes of duty. The matter came to the notice of various quarters including NBR. In such a situation, Benapole Custom House wrote to the Ministry of Commerce and the NBR to allow the transport of goods in rail cargo. The Indian High Commission also requested Bangladesh. In this context, the NBR has given permission.
According to the source, there are various benefits of importing goods through rail cargo. Minimum one-fifth of the lead time from train arrival to departure. One wagon can bring the equivalent of 4 trucks. The chances of false declaration in railcargo are low. The train fare is less than half that of a truck. Required parking, long wait for trucks and no tolls. A train of 100 bogies can bring 400 trucks of goods a day.
Other benefits of rail cargo include lying, misrepresentation, smuggling opportunities, loading and unloading in public places. Buyers of commercial goods brought in trucks, C&F, trucks, ports, customs, public-private many do not have to guard. Issue of release order in 10 minutes like rice seed, the capacity of Benapole land port will be doubled. Customs and ports will be able to double the goods without additional manpower. Duty and redemption will be in a few hours instead of a few days. Imported goods will reach the intended consumer in less time.
It is known that Benapole is the 'first gateway' of the transit corridor of the Asian Highway. With this port, goods worth Tk 300 crore are imported and exported through India every year. From here the government gets revenue of Tk. 500 crore every year. The two-kilometer railway from the zero line to Benapole railway station passes through the port of Benapole. Rail container handling will be useful if a little land is developed here. About 100 acres of land in Benapole port has 20 acres which is suitable for handling 40 feet load container with heavy compaction.
