Members of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB)-49 Battalion in Jashore have arrested Badsha Mallik alias Badsha Mia, who was the godfather of smuggling across an 85-kilometer stretch of southwest border on Wednesday night.
He was wanted in 15 cases. Badsha earned notoriety for running at least 7 drug rackets from Satkhira to Kushtia border belt.
He was arrested from Kodlarhat area near the Ragunathpur border in Benapole of Jashore.
Commander of BGB-49, Lieutenant Colonel Saifullah Siddiqui, SPC, PSC, in a press release on Thursday confirmed it.
According to the press matter, in recently, Badsha was accused in an serious allegation is that, amid the ongoing situation in the country, Badsha had been facilitating the escape of top politicians from various areas, fugitives from sedition cases, money launderers, other criminals and terrorists to India in exchange for money.
The press release also read that after receiving an intelligence report indicating Badsha was staying at a hideout of Ragunathpur border area, a special BGB team conducted an operation there and Badsha was found hiding in a secret location there.
The press release further mentioned that Badsha has been using the names of various political parties in the Sharsha Upazila through his syndicate to carry out various criminal activities for the last 30 years.
Badsha Mollik is the son of the late Keramat Mallik from Ragunathpur village of Jashore.
