Police further arrested former independent lawmaker of Kushtia-4 (Khoksa-Kumarkhali) constituency Abdur Rouf at jail gate only four hours after being released Wednesday evening.
A Kushtia court sent him to jail again that night.
This time, he was arrested in another murder case.
Earlier, RAB-12 and RAB-4, in a joint operation, arrested Rouf from his home at Mirpur in Dhaka on October 1. He was accused in a case involving the killing of BNP activist Sujon Malitha. Sujon was killed during a clash with police on August 5.
Since then, Rouf had been languishing in Kushtia District Jail after a Kushtia court sent him to jail.
According to the Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Kushtia Model Police Station, Shihabur Rahman Shihab said after granting bail, Rouf came out of jail at about 7.30:pm and they arrested at the jail gate Babu murder case.
OC continued that Babu, son of Nausher Ali of Shaldaha area in Hatsh Haripur village of Kushtia Sadar Upazila was a goldsmith by profession at the town. He was killed during a clash with police at Thanapara area on August 5. Raisul Haque, a man of Thanapara filed a case with Kushtia Model Police Station in connection with the incident accusing 35 individuals. Rouf was an accused in the case.
OC said, after being arrested from jail gate, he was brought to Kushtia Model police station and then produced before a judicial magistrate court at about 9.30:pm when the court sent him back to jail.
Rouf, a two time lawmaker of Kushtia-4 was elected in the last parliamentary election held in January 2024 as Independent candidate defeating Awami League (AL) candidate Selim Alfat Geroge who is also now in Kushtia jail.
Rouf was elected lawmaker from the same constituency 2014 in the AL ticket.
After the dissolution of the last parliament, Rouf had been staying in Dhaka.
