At least five police personnel were injured when they came under attacked while their trying to catch drug dealers in Chuadanga. Police have arrested the drug dealer.
The incident took place on Saturday night at Ishwar Chandrapur village of Darshana municipal area of the district.
Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Darshana Police Station Mahabbur Rahman said a team of Darshana police conducted a drive in a field adjacent to the graveyard of Ishwar Chandrapur village after getting information on a secret ring selling drugs. Police arrested Abdul Hakim, a yaba seller, from there. At that time, members of the drug cartel of the ring attacked the police. Taking a chance, Hakim fled with handcuffs.
Darshana police sub-inspector (SI) Mahmudul Haque, sub-assistant inspectors (ASI) Mohammad Shahin, Mamun Ali, Idris Ali and police member Sohail Rana were injured in the incident.
Upon receiving the news, additional police personnel led by Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Darshana Police Station Mahbub Rahman launched another operation. During the operation, police arrested three drug smugglers including Hakim who fled with 28 bottles of Phensidyl and handcuffs.
The arrested are Hashem Ali, 52, son of late Askar Ali of Ishwar Chandrapur village in Darshana municipality and his son Khairul Islam, 32, and Abdul Hakim, 28, son of Abdul Mannan of the same village.
The injured police officers were rescued and taken to Damurhuda Upazila Health Complex.
OC Mahabubur Rahman said drug trafficking was going on in the area under Khairul's leadership.
A Chuadanga court sent them to jail.
