Five Bangladeshis detained by the BSF with buffaloes from the Indian side of Kushtia’s Daulatpur border have been sent to Indian jail.
On Friday, they were sent to Bahrampur jail in India’s Murshidabad district.
The Indian Border Security Force (BSF) picked them up from the Baushmari border in India around 4:30 am on Thursday. They have been charged with smuggling buffaloes across the border.
According to local sources, a group of 6 Bangladeshis were smuggling buffaloes from India to Bangladesh on Thursday morning. Meanwhile, BSF from Baushmari camp under 141 BSF battalion of Jalangi police station in Murshidabad district of India chased the buffalo smugglers and arrested 5 Bangladeshis including 2 buffaloes. At that time, Siraj, Ashiq and Biplob fled to the Bangladesh border in the Challishpara border area of Ramkrishnapur union of Daulatpur upazila of Bangladesh after being chased by the BSF.
Among the detainees are Mithan Ali, 25, son of Nader Ali of Thotarpara village in Ramkrishnapur union of Daulatpur upazila, Liton Ali, 30, son of Abdur Razzak of Bagmari village and Alamgir Hossain, 28, son of Alim Uddin and Bagu Mandal, son of Ukil Mandal of Charpara village. 50) and Jiban Sarkar's son Anand Sarkar (25).
The flag meeting was held on Friday after the Ramkrishnapur BOP commander under 48-BGB battalion sent a letter to the BSF at Baushmari camp demanding the return of the Bangladeshis.
AC Bimal Kumar, Commander, Baushmari Camp, 141 BSF Battalion, Jalangi Police Station, Murshidabad District, India, led the 13-member BSF at the flag meeting held at Nomansland on the Baushmari-Mohammadpur border adjacent to the 156/5-S border pillar.
Subedar Jahangir Alam, Commander of Mahishkundi Company under 47 BGB Battalion led the 8-member BGB team.
In just 10 minutes of the flag meeting, it was informed that the Bangladeshis were in jail.
