Field Day on the exhibition of modern rice variety paddy 85 (Brri Dhan-85) of Aus season invented by Bangladesh Rice Research institute (BRRI) has been held at Naoda Shamukhia area in Mirpur Upazila in Kushtia on Thursday.
Sushant Kumar Pramanik, Training Officer of District Agriculture Extension Department (DAE) was present as the chief guest there.
The programme was presided over by Dewan Mahbub Rahman, Chief Senior Scientific Officer, BRRI Regional Office. Among others Dr. Afsana Anshari, Senior Scientific Officer, BRRI, Kushtia Regional Office, Scientific Officer Mohammad Rezwan bin Hafiz Pranta, Talbaria Union Parishad Chairman Abdul Hannan Mandal were present.
The chief guest in speeches informed that the present government is agri-friendly. The government has taken various steps to improve agriculture. BRRI-85 paddy, invented with the new technology, can produce twice as much other paddies. Farmers will be benefited than farming of other conventional varieties.
He added that the Rice Research Institute is working tirelessly to innovate new rice varieties. He urged the farmers to plant this paddy. He thinks that the farmer will get good yield every year if they can cultivate properly and if the weather is favorable.
The programme was conducted by Iftekhar Uddin Jitu, Scientific Officer, Paddy Research Institute, Kushtia (BRRI).
At the end of cutting, it is seen that the yield of the paddy has been 18 maund in per bigha.
Farmers were present on the occasion.
