Eight police personnel have been terminated from their jobs in Kushtia after dope test proved of their using drug.

Beside, Superintendent of police in Kushtia SM Tanvir Arafath again announced his stance of zero tolerance against any misdeeds of police personnel in his district.

Among the sacked police, two are Sub-Inspectors (SI), two Assistant Sub-Inspectors (ASI) and the rest are constable status. At the same time, investigation is underway regarding two more police including a sergeant.

According to police source, Kushtia police took the initiative to dope test to its police members over an instructions of the higher authorities.

Based on the information received from the district intelligence source, 10 policemen were dope tested in May 2019. In the test, the report of drug use of 9 police came positive.

In the last one and a half years, 11 police have been dope tested in phases. The test proved that 9 of them were using drugs. They were working in different police stations and camps of the district.

After the evidence, departmental cases were filed against them and at the same time some were transferred to other districts. One of the SIs was sent to Rangamati. One sergeant has been attached to Kushtia police line. The rest are working in Kushtia and other districts.

Superintendent of Police in Kushtia SM Tanvir Arafath said a show cause notice was issued in last September to explain why they would not be fired. And they hey answered.

They then appealed to the Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Khulna. The matter is not approved there either.

The SP said they were last fired in Sunday (November 29).
