A Kushtia physician received death by Corona (Covid-19) at one stage of treatment at Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University Hospital early Friday.
The dead was SM Nur Uddin Abu Al Baki Rumi, 46, an assistant professor of surgery at Kushtia Medical College. He is the first doctor in the district died in pandemic coronavirus.
Dr. SM Mustanjid Lotus, former principal of Kushtia Medical College, confirmed the matter.
According to the District Civil Surgeon’s Office, Corona found on Rumi’s body on July 3. He was sent to Dhaka on the same day for advanced treatment.
Dr. Rajiv Shahriar, who was with him, said there was no significant improvement in his condition. He had diabetes. His condition further deteriorated on Thursday evening.
He died at around 3: am in the morning.
Resident Medical Officer (RMO) of Kushtia General Hospital Tapash Kumar Sarkar said Rumi’s house was in Dariapur of Meherpur district. He joined Kushtia Medical College in 2013.
Dr Tapas said Rumi was the first doctor in the district to die of Covid-19. So far 22 people have died in the district.
Meanwhile, 1,103 Covid-19 patients have been identified in the district.
