Kushtia corona infection could not be brought under control in any way. The worst situation is in Kushtia Sadar and district towns.
Large scale of announcements in various ways, lockdowns, motivation and even intimidation by law enforcement did not work. Experts say the increase of infections and deaths in Kushtia is due to disobeying the rules. Till last night (July 10), the number of infections in 6 upazilas of the district stood at 919. And 19 people died where 11030 people came under the test.
Meanwhile, at the rate that is rapidly increasing, the doctors are apprehended that they will face tough situation in the coming days. The isolation ward of Kushtia General Hospital has already been filled. Initiatives are being taken to increase the beds. However, as the number of patients continues to rise, there has been a shortage of beds and oxygen in the hospital.
Earlier, to bring the situation under control, red zone was declared in 21 areas and a 15-day lockdown was clamped down. This is done on the advice of the district health department. But the health department officials think that the 15-day lockdown has failed. This is because during the lockdown, the corona increases rather than decreases.
According to their counts, 183 corona patients have been identified in Kushtia town from June 25 to July 10. It has adapted to the pre-lockdown situation. The number of patients in the municipal area of the town at the moment is over three hundred.
The last nail has been fixed by opening the shop again. After 15 consecutive days of lockdown, the District Corona Prevention Committee held a virtual meeting last Tuesday. At the meeting, district civil surgeon and health department officials suggested maintaining a red zone in the city. However, the administration decided to lift the lockdown at night.
Sources said the business leaders in the district have decided to open the shop alone. After a meeting by their own, the senior leaders of the chamber of Commerce and Industries informed the district administration about the decision to open the shop.
A director of the chamber said they may have taken risks by opening up businesses, but they had no choice but to do so to save lives. The leader of this chamber asked if the infection has been reduced by keeping the shops closed. Rather, he claims that it has increased.
The Kushtia Civil Surgeon blames the unconsciousness of the common people for not getting the expected results. He said he had written to the health ministry informing them to the matter.
Kushtia Deputy Commissioner Aslam Hossain said there was no good news for Kushtia at the moment. He says he is really shocked to think that where there are so many arrangements to save people but the people are breaking the rules mindlessly.
The deputy commissioner said the administration would not give up. The administration will be on the ground as per the government instructions.
