A Kushtia court on Wednesday night sent a youth to jail for his reported criticism to the Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on live social media
The accused was identified as Tipu Sultan Ibrahim, 23, son of Khokon Ali of Kumargara, outskirts of Kushtia town.
Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Kushtia Model Police Sabbirul Alam said using his own Facebook ID, the youth talked about the activities starting from the establishment of online business e-Orange at 12:15 pm on Tuesday where he alleged the government’s involvement with it. At the same time, he mentioned the name of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina as the ‘patron’ of all this and spoke ‘harshly’ about the Prime Minister.
Over the issue, one Ejazul Hakim of the same area filed a case against the youth under the Digital Security Act at Kushtia Model Police Station on Wednesday afternoon.
The plaintiff in the case mentioned that the activities of the youth caused deep resentment among the people in the area. In the incident, he feared of deteriorating the law and order in the area as image of the state was tarnished by it.
The statement further said that many people shared the video after watching it. Everyone was hurt when Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina was insulted by the man. The Prime Minister’s reputation has been tarnished by such activities.
On Wednesday (September 15), a team of Kushtia Model Police conducted a raid and arrested the youth from his own area around 9.30 pm. Regarding the identity of the youth, the OC told that Tipu Sultan’s family was once involved in Jamaat-e-Islam politics. He is a student of a private polytechnic college.
OC said the accused was produced before Chief Judicial Magistrate court in Kushtia on the night and the court sent to him to jail on the same night.
