The proposal to cancel Primary Education Completion (PEC), Junior School Certificate (JSC) and equivalent examinations this year has not yet been sent to the PM’s office. It is learned that the matter will be presented to the Prime Minister if she agrees.
The Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Primary and Mass Education have made such a proposal to send to the Prime Minister’s Office. If Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina approves the proposal, the Ministry of Primary and Mass Education will cancel the PEC and Madrasa Education Board’s Ibtedayi Education Completion and the Ministry of Education will cancel the JSC and Junior Dakhil Certificate (JDC) examinations.
Officials at the two ministries say it may take several more days for the government to resolve the issue. The reason for taking a little time is that the government is still thinking of various options for opening educational institutions.
Meanwhile, State Minister for Primary and Mass Education Zakir Hossain on Wednesday (August 12) said the PEC examination will be held in a short syllabus. He said this at a briefing at the Secretariat at noon.
The minister said the annual exams will be held in the respective schools if the school open in September or October. However, the ministry has planned an auto pass process if the school opens in December.
The PEC, JSC and equivalent examinations are usually held in November.
This year, about 3 million students are expected to take part in PEC and about 2.5 million in JSC.
All educational institutions in the country have been closed since March 17 due to coronavirus infection and all educational institutions have been declared closed till August 31.
