Total four people consumed toxic alcohol in Kushtia died till Tuesday morning.
The dead are Shahinur Rashid (47), Ratan Sekh (21) and Sifatul Alam and Sabuj Hossain (23).
In the incident 5 more people are still under treatment in Kushtia general hospital.
Among them, Sifatul Kushtia is the joint secretary of District Chhatra League, student wing of ruling Awami League.
The Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Kushtia Model Police Station Shahadat Hossain admitted the truth of the incident and said that on Sunday night, they received information that several people were admitted to Kushtia General Hospital after drinking poisonous alcohol in different parts of the district.
Among them, three people named Shahin, Ratan and Sifatul died in the early hours of Sunday.
At the same time, 10 other people were ill and under treatment in the same hospital.
Residential Medical Officer (RMO) of Kushtia General Hospital.Tapas Kumar Sarkar said they mainly drink spirit which was rectified. That’s where the poisoning comes from.
Meanwhile, after this death, the police investigation revealed that the source of the alcohol was the Poradah Sweeper Colony of Mirpur Upazila in Kushtia.
Kushtia Superintendent of Police Khairul Alam said that according to the information, the deceased drank the alcohol sitting in the sweeper colony or elsewhere.
Another police source said that all of them were regular customers of that colony. They used to go there and drunk alcohol.
The Superintendent of Police also said that on the night a total of 30 to 35 people collected different types of liquor from that colony.
