Police have recovered the hanging bodies of women at Kamarpara of Aria Union in Daulatpur Upazila of Kushtia within an hour.

They are cousins ​​in relations.

The incident took place on Friday (October 23) between 12 noon and 1 pm. The victims are Ruma Khatun, 25, daughter of Muntaz Ali of the area and Mukta Khatun, 18, daughter of her cousin Moazzem Hossain.

Arya Union Parishad (UP) chairman Saeed Ansari said Mukta was an accomplice in a rape case four months ago. She has been on the run since then at her cousin Ruma’s husband’s house. She came home a few days ago. Locals informed the police station after seeing the body hanging in Mukta’s house around 12 noon on Friday. On hearing the news of Mukta’s death, Ruma also committed suicide in her own house.

Daulatpur Police Officer-in-Charge (OC) Zahurul Haque said the bodies of the two were recovered and sent to Kushtia General Hospital morgue in the afternoon for autopsy. 

However, it cannot be said now whether the incident was suicide or murder. The cause of death will be known in the autopsy report, OC said.

However, the family members are not talking about the issue.
