Clash in two groups in Khoksa/10 people injured, 18 arrested

The incidents of beating, attacking, vandalizing houses and looting took place over a chaos of two rival groups at Komorbhog village in Khoksa upazila of Kushtia. At least ten people were injured in the incidents which started on Wednesday night and continued till Thursday morning.

Three cases were filed over the incident. Police said they, so far, arrested 18 people of both sides.

Officer-In-Charge (OC) of Khoksa Police Station Kamruzzaman Talukder said men belonging to local level Awami League leader also member of Osmanpur Union Parishad Jabed Ali and former member of the same UP Md. Nayan involved in the chaos.

OC said they first engaged in altercation and at one stage, one side attacked the houses of the others and later they also counter-attacked.

Local indigenous weapons were used during these clash left around 10 people of both groups injured.

The injured included Shahjahan Ali (45), Amirul Islam (40), Rashidul, Tuhin (23), Munnu (60) and Saikhul Islam (42). Few women and children were also injured in the incident.

As Shahjahan’s condition became critical and he was referred to Kushtia General Hospital.

At least 13 houses and shops were vandalized in the attack and counter-attack.

Two platoons of police were deployed at night to bring the situation under control. Police arrested at least 18 people on Wednesday night and Thursday morning and 90 people were accused in 3 cases in this incident.

Jabed Ali said people of the two sides had cut ties the night before. At that time, the leader of the opposition Liton master announced the attack on opposition.

According to the announcement, men belonged Liton started throwing bricks at the houses of his opposition people on Wednesday afternoon. At night the attack was led by Liton again. The member claimed that the attackers vandalized 5 houses of his people.

When talked, Nayan said that there has been a long-running conflict between the two groups. He, however, claimed not to know about the incident.

Meanwhile, Upazila Awami League president Babul Akhter said that although there was a clash between the two groups of the union Awami League, it was basically a social quarrel.
