A mobile court sealed off a Chuadanga hotel for supplying degrading and rotten food to a quarantine center today (Thursday).

Total 114 Bangladeshi people returned back from India through Darshna border have been 14 days of quarantine at Chuadanga Technical Training Center (TTC) center.

A mobile court of the district administration conducted the drive at about 11.30:am. The court’s Executive Magistrate Habibur Rahman, said the hotel owner had pleaded guilty to poor quality food.

The quarantine people are being provided meals three times a day from three restaurants designated by the Chuadanga district administration. As per the government guidelines, everyone in the quarantine has paid Tk. 5,000 in advance for all the food expenses for 14 days.

There was dissatisfaction when the fish supplied with rice smelled rotten on Wednesday night. Individuals in quarantine demonstrated at night. Many left food and came up. Many threw food through the windows of the TTC building.

Officials of Chuadanga district administration and police reached there after receiving the news. Later everyone was calmed down.

Amjad Hossain, NDC (Nejarat Deputy Collector) of the district administration, who is in charge of managing the food for the passengers in the quarantine, said at night that legal action would be taken against the guest hotel.

When contacted, Chuadanga Deputy Commissioner Nazrul Islam blamed The Daily Star for the unscrupulous hotel owner.

“It is very unethical to treat people in quarantine like this,” the deputy commissioner said.

He said action has been taken against these hotels. He said that by changing the hotel, better food supply has been ensured.
