China is making rapid progress in developing vaccines. A Covid-19 vaccine from the country's Institute of Medical Biology has entered the second phase of human testing in China. Xinhua reported on Saturday. Researchers at the Institute of Medical Biology, under the auspices of the Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences, have previously developed vaccines for polio and hepatitis A. They claim to have succeeded in testing the first phase of an inactivated virus vaccine for Covid-19.
According to a report in China Daily.com, the second phase of the vaccine will be tested to assess its immunity and safety in the human body. It is being tested in China's southeastern Yunnan province.
Last May, researchers at the Institute of Medical Biology began testing the first phase of the vaccine. 200 volunteers, aged 18 to 59, received the vaccine at West China Second University Hospital in Sichuan Province. The institute is reportedly setting up a vaccine manufacturing plant in Kunming, Yunnan Province. They will start production of vaccines from this factory at the end of this year.According to the Xinhua report, the Chinese company has great capabilities and experience in vaccine research. Earlier, the company has saved many children in China by making polio vaccine.
Five vaccines have so far been approved for clinical trials in China. China accounts for 40 percent of all vaccine clinical trials in the world. That is what the country's Ministry of Science and Technology has demanded.
