The Joint General Secretary of ruling Bangladesh Awami League Mahbub-ul Alam Hanif said BNP has suffered a deplorable defeat and it means that people are in the side of development. He said this while talking about the defeat of BNP in the festive vote of the second phase election of the municipality. He said the people are in favor of peace and development.
“Here the BNP has been defeated shamefully. The Awami League candidates have won by a huge margin. This proves that the people are in favor of development and peace of the country, which has been ensured by Bangabandhu-daughter Sheikh Hasina, ‘he said.
Hanif said, ‘The people want the way she (Sheikh Hasina) has taken the country forward as the Prime Minister, the way she has kept the people of the country in a peaceful environment. The result of this vote is a reflection of the people’s confidence in Sheikh Hasina.
He said this while distributing VGD cards at Kushtia Sadar Upazila auditorium on Sunday.
Hanif told that during the BNP rule, all kinds of safety net programmes were stopped. Money is reduced on those that were kept running. In many cases, money were looted not giving to the poor. But the present government, Sheikh Hasina’s government is launching hundreds of safety net programs and it is being further enhanced.
On the issue of elections, Hanif said the BNP has repeatedly said that the people will be on their side if free and fair elections are held in the country. Voting in the second round of municipal elections was held in a free, fair and festive atmosphere yesterday (Saturday). This election has been held with the participation of all parties.
He said there was no room to complain. The countrymen will probably remember the vote in this festive atmosphere for a long time.
This joint general secretary of Awami League said, there is a Bengali proverb- if you don’t know how to dance, the yard is crooked. The BNP itself has repeatedly lost by participating in the polls.
Hanif told about Kushtia election. He said vote was held in five municipalities of Kushtia. Two of them had EVMs, the other three had ballots. How many votes did the BNP get there?
