Birthday of writer Humayun Ahmed

Today (November 13) is 72th birthday of another immortal creator of Bengali literature Humayun Ahmed. Humayun has enriched Bengali literature in many ways.

Humayun was a novelist, short story writer, lyricist, playwright and film director. In all cases he was at the top of popularity. Unique in creativity. He has created wherever he has taken his hand. He made the reader and the audience. His contribution to book reading in Bangladesh will be written in golden letter.

Humayun Ahmed was born on 13 November 1948 in Netrokona. He died on 19 July 2012.

He wrote more than two hundred novels in his lifetime. He started his journey with the novels ‘Nandit Narke’ and ‘Shangkhnil Karagar’ and then enriched the Bengali literature with numerous novels including ‘Jochna O Janani’s Story’, Kothao Keu Nei, Eisob Dinrattri’, Kobi etc. His novel ‘Deyal’ has received skyrocketing readership. And his creations ‘Himu’, ‘Misir Ali’, ‘Shuvro’ characters have been imitated by readers from young to old.

Along with writing, films made by Humayun Ahmed was also very popular. He has won National Film Awards for his films ‘Aguner Parashamani’, ‘Shravan Megher Din’, ‘Dui Duari’, ‘Shyamal Chhaya’ and ‘Ghetuputra Kamala’. Besides, the immortal creations of his Bengali dramas ‘Kothao Keu Nei’ Eisob Din Rattri’, ‘Ayomay’ and ‘Bahubrihi’.

Humayun Ahmed has received various awards in his long literary career of four decades. Among them are Ekushey Padak, Bangla Academy Sahitya Puraskar, Humayun Qadir Smriti Puraskar, Lekhakshibir Puraskar, Michael Madhusudan Dutta Puraskar, National Film Puraskar and Bacchus Puraskar. Besides, Humayun Ahmed has been honored outside the country at different times.
