The export in Benapole land port has been closed for the last three months. No product from Bangladesh is going to India. But at the same time imports have continued.
Around 50 types of goods are exported to India every day in regular trade through this port. Exports include jute and jute products, readymade garments, chemicals, tissues, rice husks, mahogany fruits, fish, oxygen etc.
About 70 per cent of the land export trade is through Benapole port. The amount of goods exported to India every year is about 8 thousand crore taka. But this has resulted in a deficit of around Tk 2,000 crore as all types of exports are closed.
Although several meetings were held locally, trade was not active.
Leaders of the C&F Association say the government should take the initiative to address the issue.
Sources said the Indian government suspended all import and export trade from March 22 due to the corona infection. Later on June 6, the import trade of Indian goods started on this route, but due to security reasons, the Indians stopped the export trade of Bangladesh.Benapole Land Port Deputy Director Mamun Kabir Tarafdar thinks that there is no obstacle to start export in the process of import.
He said the matter is known to the country's high ups. These officials hope that the export process can be started soon.
Matiar Rahman, director of the India-Bangladesh Chamber of Commerce and Industry said talks had been held with Indian authorities to revive the trade. They have sent an SOP with this. They are being discussed.
Benapole C&F Association leaders say a lot of industrial goods are stuck in the port. Since the import has started in this way, the export trade will also be started if it is discussed at the state level. However, government initiative is needed for this.
