Bangladesh to export 3000 tons Hilsha to India on Durga Puja

Bangladesh will export around 3,000 metric tons of hilsa to India on the occasion of Durga Puja. The Commerce Minister says it is a sign of courtesy.
Total 49 companies have been provided permission to export. Each company has been allowed to export 50 metric tons of hilsa.
As per the order, only authorized companies will can export hilsa consignments. The export permit cannot be transferred to any other company or sub-contracted in any way, the order said.
According to the conditions of Hilsa export, the regulations of the Export Policy 2021-2024 must be followed, manual inspection of the exported products by the customs authorities, export related documents must be submitted to the Export-II Division at the end of each consignment, not more than the permitted quantity of Hilsa can be sent. .
Commerce Minister Tipu Munshi said, ‘We have been exporting hilsa to India as a sign of courtesy for 15-20 days on the eve of the holy Durgo Festival for the last three consecutive years.’
In 2021, the Ministry of Commerce approved 115 companies to export 4,600 tons of hilsa to India against the application of about 200 companies there 1000 tons were exported. About 1,450 tonnes were exported to India in 2020. In 2019, only one trading company received permission and it exported 500 tonnes of fish.
According to the export policy order, the export of hilsa from Bangladesh is prohibited. However, every year before Durga Puja, a large number of exporters of the country apply to the Ministry of Commerce for permission to send Hilsa to India.
