The Assistant High Commissioner of India to Tajshahi Rajshahi, Bangladesh Sanjeev Kumar Bhati said the opening of an Indian visa application and processing center in Kushtia will be considered with cordially after checking of all potentialities.
He said due to the Covid-19 situation, the tourist visa could be rolled out in January or April. After the introduction of tourist visas, the issue of opening an Indian Visa Application Center here can be actively considered for the needs and convenience of the people of Kushtia and the surrounding five districts.
He made the remarks while exchanging views with prominent citizens of the city in the hall room of a local restaurant on Tuesday (October 5) evening. He came to Kushtia from Meherpur.
The meeting was organized by Ajay Sureka, a prominent businessman of Kushtia and treasurer of Kushtia district Awami League.
He said, ‘India-Bangladesh friendship is long and tested. The two countries have traditionally had considerable similarities in literature and culture, including the expansion of trade and commerce. This relationship is complementary. It’s not about getting gloomy.
He said a modern complex with cafeteria, library, rest house and other infrastructures by Indian funding, have been constructed at Shilaidaha Kuthibari in Kushtia, which is associated with the memory of poet Guru Rabindranath Tagore. These have enhanced the beauty of the courtyard and caught the eye of the visitors.
He said the feasibility study of launching a land port at Mujibnagar in Meherpur district is underway.
He said the Indian government is sincere in overcoming all the problems in trade and commerce at various borders in the area including Benapole and Gede.
He lauded the visionary leadership of Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. He said Bangladesh under the able and visionary leadership of Hasina will surpass many countries in development.
