A press release issued by the Islamic Foundation told that the moon of the month of Muharram in the year 1442 AH was seen in the sky of Bangladesh on Thursday. As a result, the counting of the holy month of Muharram will start from Friday, August 21. In this context, Ashura will be observed all over the country on Sunday, August 30.
10 Muharram or Ashura is a public holiday in Bangladesh.
10 Muharram is a symbol of abandonment and mourning in the Muslim world. In Bangladesh, devout Muslims, especially Shia Muslims, observe the day through religious discipline.
On this day, Hazrat Imam Husain, the grandson of the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him), was martyred in the desert of Karbala on the banks of the Euphrates River. Since then, the tragic events of Karbala have been observing in the Muslim world as a symbol of abandonment and mourning.
