Folk music artist Gagan Harkara and all the famous people have kept their contribution for the soil of Kushtia will be remembered by Kushtia Municipality.
In a special discussion on Special News 24.com titled ‘Gagan Harkara’, the mayor of the municipality Anwar Ali also said that he would be with the initiatives of others to preserve the memory of the great men.
The discussion, which broadcast live online at 4 pm on Thursday, was graced by Kushtia Municipality Mayor Anwar Ali, prominent writer and researcher also the editor of bangla daily Dainik Kushtia and english weekly The Kushtia Times Dr. Amanur Aman, president of Kushtia Press Club also Editor of Bangla Daily Dainik Ajker Alo Gazi Mahabub Rahman and Journalist Sheikh Hasan Belal.

The event was started with singing of Gagan Harkara’s famous song ‘Ami Kothaye Pabo Tare/Amar Moner Manush jere’ performed by local artist Kabir Hasan Bakul.
Citing the Gagan’s life, Dr. Amanur Aman said Gagan was as patriotic as he was responsible as a postman. He lived in a secluded village in Shilaidaha of Kumarkhali upazila in Kushtia. He was inspired by the Baul song of Baul king Fakir Lalon Shah and inspired to great poet Nobel laurite Rabindranath Tagore who composed the “My golden bengal I Love You, which is our national anthem. He also thanked to the Mayor Anwar Ali for setting up sculpture of Gagan Harkara in the town.

Another speaker, Gazi Mahabub Rahman, also president of Gagan Harkara Research and Cultural Center, said more initiatives need to be taken to preserve the memory of Gagan Harkar. He emphasis on preserving homestead of Gagan Harkara.
Kushtia Municipality Mayor Anwar Ali said that initiatives are being taken to renovate the sculpture of Gagan Harkar. It is damaged by storms. The artist has been called. He also said that all the necessary changes will be made in the sculpture site.
Anwar Ali said Kushtia Municipality has a plan to bring the people on light who made the Kushtia proud. He said, this is the responsibility of all the people of Kushtia too. He called upon all to come forward together.
