Awami League candidate Tariqul Islam has won the Khoksa municipality election. He decorated the mayor's seat for the second time. He got 9372 votes for the boat symbol. His opponent was BNP nominated candidate Nafiz Ahmed Khan who got only 1583 votes with a sheaf of paddy symbol.
The first EVM voting in the district was held in Khoksa municipality. Voters cast their votes in a festive atmosphere throughout the day.
Besides, 31 candidates are contesting for the post of councilor of this municipality and 10 candidates are contesting for the post of reserved women councilor. The total number of voters in this municipality is 14,940.
The local administration has declared 6 out of 9 polling centers as sensitive. There were 9 magistrates in charge of 9 centers and 3 more as striking.
Upazila Nirbahi Officer Mezbah Uddin said there were no reports of any untoward incident. The vote was peaceful.
Awami League candidate lecturer Tariqul Islam said EVM means peaceful voting has taken place peacefully. He sees his victory as a continuation of development. He expressed his deep gratitude to the people of Khoksa.
