Around 27 policemen tested positive for drugs. The process of dismissing them has started, said Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Commissioner Mohammad Shafiqul Islam.
He made the remarks after inaugurating the office of the Deputy Commissioner (DC) of the newly formed Traffic Mirpur Division of the DMP at Mirpur in the capital on Saturday (September 26).
“We have tested the suspects for drugs,” the DMP commissioner said. Of these, 27 members got positive. The process of dismissal of these 27 has started. We believe that taking action against them in this way will send a clear message to others that we will not give up on anyone. As a result of our initiative many have gotten better and come back from the drug road.
He added that among the police members who are involved in drugs or collaborating with drug dealers, arrests are being made directly against them. There is no relaxation in this regard.
He also said that the same action is being taken against a policeman involved in drugs in the same way as action is being taken against an ordinary drug dealer.
