A Kushtia court on Tuesday sentenced a Qawmi Madrasa teacher to life term imprisonment for raping a class eight student in Kushtia’s Mirpur upazila on October 4, 2020.

The court also fined the convicted Tk 1 lakh and to provide the victim the sum.

The convicted was Abdul Quader, superintendent of Sirajul Islam Darul Uloom Maryam Nesha Women Madrasa in Poradaha of Mirpur upazila in Kushtia. It was a residential madrassa.

According to prosecution, Abdul Quader called the resident student at his office room at 8:00am on October 3 and raped her. The teacher raped the girl again at night and threatened her not to disclose the matter.

But the girl told a friend about the incidents on October 5 at one stage she felt pain in abdomen.

The girl’s parents brought the matter to some locals and relatives.

Then locals and relatives forwarded to the madrassa and vandalised on October 5 evening.

The victims father filed a case with Mirpur police station on the same night accusing the teacher.

The teacher fled the scene soon after the mob attack, but police arrested him around 9:30pm on the same night.

Judicial magistrate court in Kushtia sent Quader to jail after police produced him before the court on October 6.

Evidence of rape was found following a medical test of the victim at Kushtia general hospital on October 7.

The accused gave admission of raping under 164 to the court.

Police submitted charge sheet on October 13. The court formed charge on November 12.

Total 13 witnesses, all were students of the madrassa in the case.

Judge at the court of women and children repression prevention Munshi Moshiur Rahman handed down the verdict in presence of the convicted.

Lawyers and general people hailed the verdict for such short time.

A member of the victim’s family when talked expressed their pleasure for the verdict.

Public prosecutor of Kushtia Judge Court termed Advocate Anup Nandi termed the verdict as milestone.
