He gave samples the day before. According to the norm, anyone should be quarantined from the time of sampling until the results come out.
But physician Safar Ali, an Assistant Professor (Gynecology) of Sheikh Sayera Khatun Medical College in Gopalganj did not follow the rule. Even he was supposed to stay at quarantine after a few days of duty at his workplace. But he avoided it. He has seen patients, even performed in operation theatre. One day after giving the sample, it was found that his corona was positive. But in the meantime he has come in contact with at least 50 people.
According to various sources, Safar Ali gave samples at Daulatpur Upazila Health Complex in Kushtia on Wednesday morning. The results obtained from the PCR lab of Kushtia Medical College came positive at 9 pm on Thursday. He got the information almost immediately.
Meanwhile, Safar Ali continued his treatment activities throughout the Thursday.
Sources said he performed at least 10/12 obstetric surgeries at different clinics in Daulatpur and Kushtia Sadar upazilas from morning till 10 pm on the day.
His home is in Daulatpur upazila of Kushtia. Although he works in Gopalganj, he comes to Daulatpur every week to see patients and perform operations.
Sayem Hossain, owner of a private clinic in Daulatpur said Safar Ali had two obstetric surgeries at his clinic twice on Thursday at 12 noon and 9 pm. He also said that he was embarrassed about the matter.
When contacted, Liyakat Hossain, principal of Sheikh Saira Khatun Medical College in Gopalganj, initially avoided the matter. He later said Safar Ali were sent to quarantine after performing his duties from Saturday to Tuesday.
“I am not aware of what he did from there,” he said.
Safar Ali spoke about this. He said he was not suffering from any serious symptoms. He gave a sample as he felt a mild fever.
He said, however, as soon as he knew the results, he restrained himself from everything.
Kushtia Civil Surgeon HM Anwarul Islam said he has been informed the matter. There is no doubt that this has created a risk.
The matter is being looked, he said.
