Four fishermen fined for netting hilsha in Kushtia

A mobile court has arrested four fishermen and fined them Tk 12,000 for catching hilsa despite the government ban in the Padma river in Kushtia’s Mirpur upazila.

Mirpur Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Lincoln Biswas conducted the court on Sunday night (October 18). Four fishermen were arrested from Khadimpur area of ​​the upazila around 6pm.

The fishermen are Sher Ali (50), Sirajul Pramanik (55), Morshed Ali (24) and Helal Malitha (56) of Naoda Khadimpur village in the same upazila.

According to the mobile court sources, the four fishermen arrested when they were catching fish in the river Padma in Khadimpur area. The mobile court also seized illegal 2,000 meter current net. The seized current mesh has been destroyed by fire.

Mirpur Upazila Fisheries Officer Raziul Islam said the operation will be continued. He called on fishermen to comply with the ban.

The government has imposed a ban on catching hilsa for 22 days from October 14 to November 4 during the main breeding season.
