A divorced woman has been allegedly raped in Daulatpur Upazila of Kushtia. Police have arrested the accused.  Kushtia court sent the accused to jail today (Wednesday).

The incident took place at Dharmadaha village in the upazila on Monday night (October 12).

Police said the woman went to watch a Pala Gaan held on Monday night in the yard of a house in Dharmadha. After the programme, the woman (32) was returning to her home a few houses away at around 1.30:am.

At that time, a man named Rustam Ali caught the woman by pressing something on her mouth and took her to Dharmadaha High School and raped her.

People walking on the road heard the screams of the women. As they forwarded, the accused rapist ran away from the spot. People recognized the fugitive in the torchlight.

Later, with the help of the locals, the woman returned home and told her father about the incident. The next day, around noon on Tuesday (October 13), the woman filed a case with the Daulatpur Police Station accusing Rustam Ali. Police arrested Rusam on the night.

The victim’s father said the incident was immediately reported to the IC of the local Tekala police camp on his mobile phone that night.

Ambia Khatun, a female member of Adabaria Union Parishad, said the woman described the rape in front of everyone. But accused Rustam Ali denied the allegations.

Officer-In-Charge (OC-Investigation) of Daulatpur Police Station Nishikanta Sarkar said the accused Rustam Ali was arrested immediately after a case was filed on Tuesday.

He has been extensively interrogated. However, the accused did not admit the allegations. The complainant woman has been sent to Kushtia General Hospital for medical test.

The accused was produced before Kushtia chief judicial magistrate court, the court sent him to jail.
