Primary schools, secondary and higher secondary level government-private educational institutions have been proposed to have two days weekly leave.
The NCTB (National Board of Curriculum and Textbooks) presented a draft of a curriculum for pre-primary to twelfth class at the last meeting and asked for two days leave in the curriculum structure. This new curriculum has been proposed to launch from 2022.
According to the relevant sources, at present the public holidays are two days a week, Friday and Saturday. But the holiday at the academy is only Friday. The NCTB proposes to extend this leave. The proposal says that even if the leave is extended, there will be no harm in the educational activities of the students. However, the decision of this holiday can be implemented at any time if the two ministries want.
Classes run 215 days a year in the educational institution for the existing weekly holidays and other holidays. If the weekly holiday is declared on Saturday, the class will run for 185 days. Because, the Saturdays are public holidays every year.
According to NCTB sources, even if there is a two-day holiday, the homework given to the students will not reduce the learning hours. This is proposed while maintaining international standards. In addition, English medium schools and several private schools have two days off per week. This will reduce the physical and mental stress on the students.
A meeting was held with the Ministry of Education last Tuesday (October 6). In that meeting, the Ministry of Education (Ministry of Primary and Mass Education) agreed on the proposal of NCTB (National Curriculum and Textbook Board) regarding weekly holidays on Friday and Saturday. NCTB is working on the issue.
