The government has declared March 7, 1971 as the ‘Historic Day’ of the speech given by Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman. At the same time, the day will be celebrated in nationally and internationally. However, there will be no public holiday on this day.

The proposal was approved at a virtual cabinet meeting chaired by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Wednesday (October 7th).

After the meeting, Cabinet Secretary Khandaker Anwarul Islam told the reporters at a limited press briefing held at the Cabinet meeting room in the Secretariat.

The High Court had issued a gazette declaring March 7as the National Day on February 25.

Khandaker Anwarul Islam said, ‘There are some important issues in this proposal. For example, the rationale of celebrating the day is to present the history of the liberation war to the future generations in a correct manner and highlight its significance. By celebrating the day, it will be possible for the people of the country to fully nurture and practice the spirit of the liberation war. It will be possible to implement the efforts of all students and people to fully establish the history of the Liberation War. All Ministries, Departments, Offices, agencies will celebrate and implement this day through their own programs. There will be no public holiday on this day.
