The Roads and Highway Department (RHD) Kushtia served a notice to Haji Robiul Islam, Chairman of Zila Parishad in Kushtia asking him leave on its land Robiul illegally occupied. Sources said Roboiul has grabbed 5 katha land of RHD and set up establishments in Lahini area in Kushtia town.
The notice asked to remove all types of installations from the occupied land within the next 10 days.
Executive Engineer of RHD Tanimul Hoque confirmed the matter.
The engineer said his department has marked the land with red ink on Sunday.
“We have asked him to remove illegal installations at one’s own responsibility within the next 10 days. Otherwise it will be demolished in the presence of a magistrate,” he said.
Sources said that Haji Robiul Islam has laid a solid wall on about two bighas of land in the Lahini area of the suburbs, starting from the wall of Lahini Secondary School next to the Kushtia-Rajbari regional highway.
Sources said told that Robiul bought only 4 kathas of land here and has occupied a few more of his lands. This land includes about 5 Katha for local roads and highways. The rest of the land belongs to another department. There is also some market land in his possession. Trees have been planted in the occupied land. A large gate has been built at the front.
The RHD executive engineer said Haji Robiul has communicated with them and now he asked approval of lease of the land in his favour.
On the other hand, district administration sources said that the Zilla Parishad is occupying 15 acres of land under the district administration on the banks of Gorai river in Bara Bazar area and is constructing a park without any permission. Work on the park has been going on for the last 5 years. Several works of the park have already been completed with government funds in the occupied river area.
Upazila Nirbahi Officer Jubayer Hossain Chowdhury said the district council is working on a park on 15 acres of land of the district administration. However, no approval is taken for this. For this reason they will be notified to occupy the place of the river. The process for this is ongoing.
