Tasmim Mim, who was tortured at her father-in-law’s house, could not survive last. She died in the morning (15 September) in the ICU of Dhaka Medical College Hospital.
According to the victim’s family sources, Tasmim Mim, the only daughter of Mohammad Mahibul Alam, office assistant of Kamirhat Secondary School in Mirpur Upazila of Kushtia got married to Ejaz Ahmed Bappi, son of late Jinnah Mollah in Taragunia village of Daulatpur Upazila of the district in 2016.
After the marriage, Bappi’s mother Kohinur Begum started misbehaving with Mim. Mim was being tortured in various ways. Even her husband Bappi himself joined to the torture.
Following this, on September 1, at around 4 pm, Bappi and his mother Kohinur Begum mercilessly beat up Mim inside the room. At one point, Mim’s condition worsened. Then the mother and son hung Mim with the fan in the room and closed the door.
Hearing Mim’s scream, the people next door rushed and broke down the door and entered.
Upon entering, they found mother-in-law Kohinur and Bappi are there. When asked about the incident, they said Mim was trying to commit suicide. But the answer to why the door was locked from the inside and what they were doing did not match.
Then it was too late. In critical condition, Mim was taken to Kushtia General Hospital but the doctor sent referred her to Dhaka.
Mim lost in the 14-day battle in the ICU of Dhaka Medical.
No case has been filed in this regard.
