Police finally arrested Ashrafuzzaman Sujan, the convener of now defunct Kushtia Town unit Juba League, the ringleader of a syndicate involved in seizing and selling land worth crores of taka through NID fraudulent.

Those arrested of the syndicate so far are Juba League leader Ashrafuzzaman Sujan, Wadud alias Mintu Khandaker, son of Khandaker Abul Hossain of Aruapara area of the city, Milon Hossain, son of Atiar Rahman of Shalghar Madhuar of Kumarkhali upazila and his two sisters Sanwara Khatun and Jahanara Khatun.
Of the Sujon was arrested toda (Wednesday) and the others on Monday.
According to police and victim sources, the gang, led by Juba League leader Sujan, forged the 22 katha out of 4 bigha ancestral property of MM Wadud, a resident of Thanapara area of the town, his mother Moksuda Khatun, 4 sisters Rizia Khatun, Basro Khatun, Salma Kabir and Shamima Khatun. They were owners of 6 lands according to the heirs of the late father M Hakim.
The land was worth about Tk 3 crore. But the frauds sold it to a hardware trader Mahibul Islam for only Tk 77 lakh. The fraudsters made fake national identity cards of all of them and became the owners of that land overnight. They were trying to sell Abdul Wadud’s property including another two-storey building worth about Tk 3 crore at NS Road in the city, using the same tactics.
The police brought the matter to their notice after the news was broadcast on several news channels. Meanwhile, the Central Juba League announced the dissolution of the town Juba League committee on Sunday as the name of Juba League leader Sujan came up with this clique.
