A close relative of ruling Awami League (AL) lawmaker from Kushtia-1 constituency has been brutally killed by unknown miscreants. The incident took place this morning (August 29) at Philippanagar in Daulatpur upazila.
The deceased was identified as Hasinur Rahman. He is the cousin of Kushtia-1 Awami League MP Advocate AKM Sarwar Jahan Badshah and a local level infuletial Awami League leader.
Son of Jamir Uddin, Hasinur was hailed at south-southern PhilipNagar in Daulatpur upazila in the district.
Officer-in-charge (current duty) of Daulatpur Police Station Nishikanta Roy said Hasinur left for a morning walk at around 8 am. He was being attacked by assassins near a mosque in the southwestern Philip Nagar. The unknown hoodlums stabbed him with a sharp weapons indiscriminately. At one stage, they left thinking Hasinur he dead.
Locals rescued Hasinur and sent to Daulatpur upazila health complex.
Daulatpur Health and Family Planning Officer Touhidur Islam said preparations were underway to take Hasinur to Kushtia general hospital as his condition was critical but he died before that.
OC Nishikanta said the body was taken to the morgue of Kushtia General Hospital.
Police have not yet commented on the incident.
