Government wants to make guidelines to create skilled contractors in the country. At the same time, government also wants to punish for poor work.
LGERD minister Tajul Islam informed it.
He emphasized on creating professional contractors and directed the concerned offices to prepare a guideline to punish the contractors for substandard work.
He made the remarks at an online meeting with engineers working at the field level under the local government engineering department from the ministry’s own office on Monday (August 10th), according to a press release.
The minister said the quality of work must always be ensured. Low quality work, irregularities and corruption will not be tolerated under any circumstances. Whoever is involved in irregularities and corruption will be brought under severe punishment.
The minister said the local government engineering department has set up quality control laboratories in the offices of executive engineers in 64 districts to control the quality of all development work at the field level. Where the quality of construction materials used in development works is tested.
He said the contractor no longer has to come to Dhaka to test the construction materials he will use for the work. So the quality of the contractor’s work can now be easily determined.
Tajul Islam said that many times it is seen that the box is cut at once in the whole road, it cannot be done and the box must be cut and the bed must be rolled.
He directed the field level engineers to strengthen the monitoring system so that substandard construction materials are not used during the construction of rural roads.
Stating that the work of development projects must be sustainable, quality and productive, Tajul Islam also emphasized on creating a work plan at the beginning of the year for each work to speed up the work.
Field level engineers including Helaluddin Ahmed, Senior Secretary, Local Government Department, senior officials of the Ministry, Chief Engineer of LGED, Additional Engineer and District Executive Engineer attended the meeting.
