A mother and son drowned in Padma River when a boat capsized at Sahebnagar area in Daulatpur in Kushtia on Wednesday afternoon.
The deceased were identified as Selina Khatun, 30, wife of Rasul Mandal and son Siam, 11.
Rasul Mandal (62) and his youngest son Sagar (9) who were in the boat survived the incident.
Ramkrishnapur Union Chairman Siraj Mandal said the boat sank in a strong current in Sahebnagar while four people were traveling in a small dingy boat from Taltala Ghat on the Padma Char to Sonatla Sahebnagar area. Rasul Mandal swam ashore with his youngest son Sagar, but Selina Khatun and her eldest son Siam drowned. Locals later recovered the bodies of the two.
