The severity of coronavirus infection has increased in Kushtia. The number of infected in the first sample test after Eid has been doubled here. Now the total number of affected people in 6 upazilas of the district has reached 1871.
This is the result of sample test of 6 upazilas in last 24 hours. It is the second highest number among 10 districts of Khulna division. Khulna district is the top of infection. Around 5 thousand, out of 12000 infected people are of Khulna alone.
In Kushtia, this time the municipal area has been included in the infection. Analyzing the results of last 24 hours, health experts in the district told that this time the virus has entered the municipal areas. Even though the infection had been recording mostly surrounding areas of the district headquarters so far, now it has been to the town this time. Most of those who have been infected in the last 24 hours and those whom are serial to be tested in the next 24 hours are from municipal areas.
Tapas Kumar Sarkar, the Resident Medical Officer (RMO) at Kushtia General Hospital, clarified that the number of infections in the town has increased. He also has given a status on his Facebook ID last evening.
The doctor, who has been closely monitoring the situation in addition to policymakers in the district health since the beginning of the Covid-19 situation, said the virus is closely linked to human contact. The more people, the more infections, he said.
He said that due to the ‘plain freedom’ of opening markets and shopping malls, a large number of people are gathering in the municipal area. The result is an increasing of infection. He said the next two weeks are extremely risky for the citizens in the town.
The first corona patient was found in Kushtia on March 23. The victim, however, was not a resident of Kushtia. He came to Kushtia from Madaripur district. After the date, the virus gradually spread throughout the district. It is seems that the Corona came to the district from outside.
There is a tendency to break the rules and law behind creating the worst form of environment in the district. People are frequently breaking all the rules and regulations that are common for corona resistance. There were repeated attempt to explain in various ways, but nothing worked. There were various initiatives by the district administration, police, people’s representatives, social organizations for the people of the district. But all have gone in vein.
Kushtia Superintendent of Police SM Tanvir Arafath PPM (Bar) simply said that the people of Kushtia could not follow the rules. He said that after hundreds of attempts by the police, the police themselves were infected at the end. There was no gain. He blames the tendency to make money more than human life, saying no one wants to follow the rules. He said either they didn’t understand the terrible side of the virus or they didn’t care at all.
