The picture of Kushtia General Hospital in this Eid was something exceptional than other times. As the number of patients normally is little less during every Eid, the pressure is also get less. Some usually gets leave and go to the family. But in the current Corona crisis, the busyness of everyone related to treatment activities has increased manifold.
It can be said that they do not have a holiday. The Ministry concerned has already instructed them to stay in the workplace. Home quarantine for a few days after a few days of working according to the rules, join to work again.
The risk for the doctors and nurses has also increased. Because especially it is tough to ascertain who is affected and who is not before test. But they are to come to the contact and give treatment. At this moment of coronavirus, like the rest of the world, many doctors and nurses in Bangladesh have sacrificed a lot of their happiness. Eid did not come bringing any exception.
However, they have accepted all this. They said after the end of the day, they finds happiness the midst of their service.
Kushtia’s only general hospital is also not on any exception. The doctors and nurses have spent their days serving ordinary patients and corona patients. Seventeen doctors and 70 nurses were on duty on Eid day.

According the hospital sources, 294 patients were admitted on Eid day in the hospital. Of these, 31 were infected with coronavirus, 11 under intensive examination.
The Resident Medical Officer (RMO) of Kushtia General Hospital Tapas Kumar Sarkar said he is working as resident doctor at the hospital at this juncture of the country.
He said his responsibilities have increased even more on Eid. Could not return to family.
“We have given our laughter and happiness in the service of people,” Tapos said.
They themselves have celebrated Eid by raising money among them. There is no separate allocation here.
When talked to a doctor, he said they have join to this profession with the mentality of service.
“We have to serve even if there is a risk to life. But there are many ordinary people, who discredit the doctors. But at the risk of their lives, doctors are silent when they are treating corona sufferers. Many doctors have already died. Ordinary people do not think how difficult it is to fulfill responsibilities,” he said preferring not to be named.
A nurse of the hospital who provided services to the patients on the day of Eid said, we don’t have Eid now. If we go to spend Eid on holiday, the service of patients will be disrupted.
Especially at this time of Corona epidemic, nurses are serving the patients by sacrificing their own happiness and the happiness of the family.
“I am also on duty on the day of Eid, even if it feels a little bad, I have accepted it,” she said.
Dr. Tapas said that the number of corona cases is increasing day by day in Kushtia along with the rest of the country. People’s negligence and unconsciousness are largely responsible for this.
He urged that people to follow the rules.
