The government is considering of planning to extend the academic year of primary level by two months that will end in February next year to make up the loss of unscheduled holidays in the ongoing corona situation.
The Minister of State for Primary and Mass Education, Md. Zakir Hossain told it at a virtual seminar on IRAB on Monday.
Senior Secretary of the Ministry of Primary and Mass Education was present as a special guest at the seminar Akram Al Hossain, Director General of the Department of Primary Education Fasiullah and Rasheda K Chowdhury, Executive Director of Mass Literacy Campaign spoke as special guests.
The event was hosted by Nizamul Haque, General Secretary of IRAB.
The state minister said educational institutions have been closed for the last four months. We have taken various plans to make up for the loss. This year’s syllabus is being shortened as the school has been closed for a long time. This syllabus will be made from the important part of the textbook of the primary students, work has been started to reduce it if it is less important.
He said there are plans to open the primary school from September. If it is possible to complete the short syllabus within this period, the students will be promoted to the next class through class assessment in December this year. And if that is not possible, then the current academic year will be extended by two months until next February.
“We have already started teaching on television,” the minister mentioned. Through this many students are busy in their studies. Recording work has started for the radio class. Radio class broadcasting will be started soon to bring all the students under it.
