A listed drug dealer was killed in a gunfight between two groups of drug dealers and police in Kushtia’s Daulatpur upazila early today (Saturday).
The deceased was identified as Kudrat Mandal, 50, hailed at border adjacent Munshiganj village of the upazila.
He was accused with 6 cases including four for drugs, one is related to arms smuggling and one is related to clash over drug smuggling.
The incident took place at around 2am on Saturday at Dangmarka village in Daulatpur upazila of the district.
Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Daulatpur Police Station SM Arifur Rahman said Kudrat was a police-listed drug dealer. He has been involved in drug smuggling at various points along the Daulatpur border for almost two decades.
Police arrested him twice at different times. Each time he came out of court on bail.
OC Arifur said they got the news that two drug dealer’s group were involved in a commotion with the smuggled Phensidyl in Dangmarka area.
A police team when arrived at Center More at around 2 am, a group of drug dealers opened fire on the police. This team was led by Kudrat, OC said.
The OC said police involved in clash with the two groups of drug dealers when they fired back.
At one stage, the criminals retreated. Police searched the spot and found Kudrat’s body there. At the same time, a foreign made pistol, 3 rounds of ammunition, 1 magazine, a sharp weapon and 43 bottles of Phensidyl were recovered from the spot.
.Superintendent of Police in Kushtia SM Tanvir Arafath PPM (Bar) said in the early hours of Saturday that the police have zero tolerance against drugs. He said the operation would continue in the border areas of the district where drugs are still smuggling. No drug dealer will get a spare.
