The country’s second seaport Mongla port has exceeded the target in earning revenue. Although the profit target of Tk 91.98 crore was set for the just ended 2019-20 financial year, Mongla Port has achieved a profit of Tk 115.15 crore at this time.
Activities at the port continue.
According to the port authorities, 903 merchant ships landed at the port and 11 million tons of goods were handled. At the same time 59 thousand 476 use containers are handled.
In this financial year, the Port Authority earned Tk. 320. 70 lakh by handling the goods of import-export sector. Of this, the port authority has made a profit of Tk 115.15 crore even after spending Tk 205 crore on salaries and allowances, renovation and development of the officers and employees, which is much more than the target.
Earlier, in 2018-19 fiscal, total 912 domestic and foreign merchant ships arrived at the port. The port authorities were able to make a profit of Tk 133 crore.
