Total of 54,006 accused have been granted bail in 40 working days through virtual hearings in all lower courts across the country.
Mohammad Saifur Rahman, spokesperson of the Supreme Court and special officer of the High Court Division, said that the bail of the accused has been granted after settling one lakh 6,038 bail applications.
The ordinance was issued for hearing in the virtual court on May 9. The next day, on May 10, the Chief Justice held a full court meeting with all the judges of the Higher Court in a video conference.
On the same day, the Supreme Court administration directed to hold a bail hearing only in the virtual court of the lower court. From then on, the bail hearing in the virtual court began in the lower court. On May 11, for the first time, one accused was granted bail in a Comilla court.
