Bengla daily Amar Desh editor, also former energy advisor to ex-Prime Minister Begum Khaleda Zia Mahmudur Rahman has filed a case in Kushtia.
Today (Thursday), he physically went and submitted the case at the Kushtia Model Police Station accusing 46 people including former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s name as prime accused.
Additionally, Mahbubul Alam Hanif, former lawmaker of Kushtia-3, former Inspector General of Police (IGP) Mohammad Javed Patwary, former Superintendent of Police Mehedi Hasan, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of the Model Police Station Nasir Uddin, and the leaders and activists of the Awami League and its affiliated organizations have been named in the case.
Earlier, during a discussion meeting at the Kushtia Press Club, Mahmudur Rahman mentioned that he came to Kushtia to file a case. He stated there that Sheikh Hasina would be the prime accused in the case. He also emphasized that he would demand the repatriation of Hasina based on the case.
On July 22, 2018, Mahmudur Rahman was attacked in Kushtia after securing bail in a defamation case. He was attacked by sticks and bricks. The glass of the car that was carrying him was also shattered. He later left for Dhaka in an ambulance from the court premises.
Regarding the matter, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Kushtia Model Police Statio Mahfuzur Haque Chowdhury said the matter will be investigated, and legal action will be taken then.
Earlier on the day, Mahmudur Rahman had a discussion meeting with students at the TSC of Islamic University (IU).
In his speeches in Kusjhtia Press Club, Mahmudur Rahman said “I was once brutally attacked in Kushtia. They tried to kill me in the then fascist-controlled court premises. But I didn’t die. They forced me out of the country, yet I didn’t die. I have returned to the country. But where are they now? They will be brought back and justice will be served.”
Mahmudur Rahman continued that “For 16 years, Bangladesh was ruled by a fascist and anti-Islamic government that was directly controlled from Delhi. We have overthrown the tyrannical regime that had oppressed us.
He mentioned the people’s movement had two goals: first, to overthrow the fascist government, and second, to eradicate Indian imperialism.
“We have achieved our first goal, but we have not yet achieved the second. Now we have the opportunity to permanently unroot Indian dominance, the same dominance against which Abrar was martyred. We must continue this fight,” he said.
He further added that he gave a seven-day ultimatum to ban Chhatra League as a terrorist organization. That deadline ends on Sunday.
“To free ourselves from the Awami League, we first need to free ourselves from the terrorists known as Chhatra League. Chhatra League is the only terrorist organization in Bangladesh. But the government has yet to show its strength. They have been very slow. So far, the government has taken no meaningful steps against the Awami League or Chhatra League,” Mahmudur said.
“If Chhatra League is not banned by then, from Monday, you all will begin a movement here in support of my demand,” he said.
