Robbery on Kushtia-Meherpur highway, 2 injured

An armed robbery took place on Meherpur-Kushtia highway on early Friday. Robbers also injured two people when they tried to resist the robbery.
The incident occurred at the Akubpur area of Gangni Upazila along the Meherpur-Kushtia highway at about 3: am on Friday.
Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Gangni Police Station Tajul Islam confirmed the incident.
Passengers of a bus said that robbers blocked several vehicles in Akubpur and attempted to enter Shyamoli Paribahan bus bound for Dhaka. When driver, Mostafizur Rahman Swapan, and his assistant tried to resist, the robbers broke into the bus, attacked the driver with sharp weapons, and beat the assistant.
The gang then looted the passenger’s belongings and cash.
During the incident, around 50 vehicles, including ambulances, microbuses, and Nasimons, were piled up on the road.
The injured were rescued and admitted to Gangni Upazila Health Complex. Doctors referred driver Mostafizur Rahman to Kushtia Medical College hospital on Friday morning as his condition sustained to be critical.
OC Tajul Islam said that a police team visited the spot and efforts are underway to book the robbers.
