Officials and experts of the Water Development Board in North and South Western region told that there is no possibility of flooding in country’s northern areas of Bangladesh within a week. They are saying it measures the water level at different points of Padma basin.
They said that after the opening of 109 gates in Farakka, only seven centimeters of water rose at Chapainawabganj point of the river Ganga (Padma in Bangladesh) in 36 hours and no water rise was observed at Hardinge Bridge point in the last 24 hours,. In view of this, they claimed that there is no possibility of floods in the Ganga basin in the next one week.
The water in this basin is still flowing 150 cm below the danger level.
Meanwhile, the same information was given by the Flood Forecasting and Warning Center (FFWC). The institution’s executive engineer, Sardar Uday Raihan said that the situation is stable based on the information received so far from India.
Meanwhile, the residents of Padmapar feel that the level of water rise is higher. They are also in fear.
The Water Development Board (WDB Northern Hydrological Measurement Department said that the water level of Padma River at Barakuti Point in Rajshahi Nagar is 18.5 meters. The water level was found to be 17.27 meters at 6 am on Tuesday.
Rajshahi Water Development Board Executive Engineer Makhleshur Rahman said on Monday evening that the Ganga-Padma river situation will remain stable for the next 3 days. If the water continues to rise like this, then the situation will be understood after three days.
Rezaul Karim, Executive Engineer of the Northern Hydrology Measurement Department, said that there is no possibility of Padma’s water crossing the limit even within the next 10 days. He said since Farakka is open and he too needs three days considering the situation upstream.
Pabna Water Hydrology Department Executive Engineer Rezaul Karim said that the water level at Hardinge Bridge Point is 1.85 cm below the danger level. 13.80 cms of danger has been found at this point.
